We will start up our classes again in February 2025
Second Saturday is a series of classes exploring simple methods of constructing handmade books and boxes. No experience necessary and students are not required to take all three classes. Space limited to 6 students and must be 18 and older. Bring a lunch; we will not have a long break
Coptic Variations. **A two-day class Saturday October 12 9:30 – 4:30 Sunday October 13 10:00 – 3:00 • $120
There are many ways to stitch, attach covers, and decorate the open spine of a Coptic style book. We will make three variations of this style—the basic single needle Coptic, a multi needle version with a braided look to the stitch, and a multi-needle chain stitch. Each book will have a different board attachment, one will have a decorative headband and the third beads sewn into the stitch. To finish our project, we will make a simple board slipcase to house our three books.
Have a day of fun and create some beautiful papers. We will use jell plates as our base and work with stencils and masks, gold sheets, flakes and paint. We will layer paint before and after the gold in a variety of ways. We will use various papers including deli paper, mulberry paper and printmaking paper. The paper size is 9” x 12” and 11” x 17”. You will go home with many sheets of paper to use in journals, collage, cards, end papers, book covers and who knows what else!
It’s Only a Paper Star Saturday, December 14 • 9:30 - 4:30 • $60
We will make four different types of stars. The first star will be the Swedish star. This three dimensional star goes by many names but they are all made from woven strips of paper. They can be embellished by dipping them in wax and sprinkling them with glitter. The second star is a two-sided star each side made from a single sheet of paper, cut and folder. A paper lace doily can be inserted between the two sides. The% last two stars are made from kite paper, a translucent paper. One star will be flat and gives a stained-glass appearance and the other, called a lion headed stat, is fluffy like an exploding star. You will have time to make several stars of each type.
